03. Putting your app on Viveport
Viveport
Viveport, HTC’s store, is focused on non-gaming VR applications worldwide, and all VR applications in China. Because of HTC’s partnership with Valve, Steam is the chosen platform for VR games everywhere except China, the only country Viveport distributes games.
In addition to supporting the Vive VR headset, Viveport also supports a number of Asian mobile VR headsets.
Viveport is also the only distribution store that offers VR arcade licensing programs (referred to as location based entertainment programs).
Essentially, you should distribute via Viveport if you want to tap into Asian markets, or have non-gaming VR content that is single player.
To get started putting your VR app on Viveport, register as a developer.
After putting in your contact information, you can immediately enter pay-out information, or wait until your app is reviewed to give your banking info.
Before submitting your app, read the Viveport Submission Guide to ensure your app is ready for review.
The main things you’ll need are:
- a decision on what opt-in programs you want to partake in (such as location based entertainment programs)
- a title and description for your app
- a decision of your app’s category and genre(s)
- a decision on what countries you want to distribute in (each country’s listing needs to be localized to the language by you)
- the price of your app
- a feature image, secondary thumbnail, main thumbnail, desktop icon, 4-8 screenshots, and optional video (the sizing details of which are all included in the Viveport Submission Guide)
- a zip file containing your app’s build (executable and data folder)
They recommend allowing 2 weeks for the full process from submission to publishing, and will provide feedback if your app is rejected.
If you get confused or need assistance, the Viveport forums are a good place to ask for help:
